Affixed in three languages to a crumbling wall on Paupio gatve, Uzupis' offbeat, yet sincere constitution is worth seeking out. In turns heartfelt, aloof and absurd, the constitution's 41 points boldly assert that everyone has the right to be...well...human:
"Everyone has the right to love."
"Everyone has the right to idle."
"Everyone has the right to be misunderstood."
Though it's origin is slightly shrouded (in mystery of course), we can only speculate that it was drafted in a candlelit room with a quill pen, having been given the names of its creators as "Thomas (Jefferson) Cepaitis" and "Romas (George Washington) Lileikis." Self-proclaimed Ambassador and President of the Republic respectively, these two founders helped father their mock state in 1998. Today you can find their 41 'commandments' around the corner from Uzupio Picerija.
