Applied Art Museum

Housed in the Old Arsenal, this building was first built in the 12th to 14th centuries to store weapons. Updated in the Renaissance style and incorporated into the Royal Palace, this building was damaged badly in the 16th century war with Russia and burned down at the end of WWII. Reconstructed from 1972-78 with a restored Renaissance facade, the Arsenal now houses the Museum of Applied Art. On the first floor the remains of the original Arsenal can be seen amongst artefacts from the Royal Palace - the most notable (for us) being a 16th century chess set. Go upstairs for an unhealthy dosage of the stations of the cross. Tue to Sat, 11:00-17:00; Sun, 11:00-16:00.
