Fit To Be Tied

On March 19th, Vilnius residents awoke to find that the statues in their good city had been "silenced." White ribbons and banners were tied around the mouths of several statues and monuments as part of a protest against the lack of freedom of speech in nearby Belarus. The action was carried out in 60 European cities by JEP Europe, an international organization of young federalists. Since last year many freedom-of-speech restrictions have been enforced in Belarus, including the ban of any activity by non-governmental organisations, and monitored Internet use. Vilnius is only a fifteen minute drive from the Belarusian border.

About the March 19th "silent" protest, Frank Zappa had this to say: "..."

The Uzupis Angel did not return calls on the matter.
