A Royal Visit

 

It's been announced that Vilnius will be visited by a Couple of very prominent guests: His Majesty King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain, accompanied by a delegation of representatives of the Royal Household, diplomacy and the media.

The Royal Couple will arrive to the Lithuanian capital on May 6 and stay until May 7. A welcoming ceremony will be held by the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus his wife. The tight schedule includes also: a visit to the Antakalnis Cemetery, a meeting with Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and a state dinner to the honor of the respectable guests.

On May 7 King Juan Carlos I is going to meet with Arūnas Valinskas and representatives of the main parliamentary political parties. Later, the guests are planning to visit the University of Vilnius, where a meeting with students and the Spanish community of Lithuania will take place.

President Adamkus says that the visit by H.M. King of Spain "will enhance further the relations between the two states and their people, and through cooperation we will continue building a united, secure and prosperous Europe. At the same time, it is a unique opportunity for the Lithuania of today to present itself to Spain and the wider Hispanic community of the world".
